Kukla's Korner Hockey

from Paul Hunter of the Toronto Star,
“They’re different circumstances altogether,” said Schenn’s agent Don Meehan. “That player (Weber) is on his third contract, Luke’s on his second; different ages. Not in any respect (are they comparable).”
Weber was a finalist for the Norris Trophy as the NHL’s top defenceman last season — the award was won by Detroit’s Nicklas Lidstrom — and is coming off a season in which he was not only a dominating physical force in his own end but he also recorded 48 points, including 16 goals with his net-ripping shot. (Compare that to five goals and 22 points for Schenn.)
Weber, 26, has also played five full seasons in the NHL; Schenn, 21, is coming off his entry level deal.
Meehan said nothing should be read into the fact that Schenn’s name is still not on a contract this deep into the summer. He said talks, which will continue Thursday with team cap specialist Claude Loiselle likely representing the Leafs, are very much in their infancy.
“We have lots of time before the start of training camp,” said Meehan. “We have work to do in terms of exchange of information, so I’m not concerned. Not yet.”
