Canadiens Re-sign Plekanec to Six-Year Deal

Per various sources, the Montreal Canadiens have re-signed Tomas Plekanec to a six-year deal.  According to TSN’s Bob McKenzie, the deal is worth $30 million, with a $5 million annual cap hit.

If Plekanec is able to sustain a regular season production at around 60-70 points, which doesn’t seem that farfetched, an annual salary of five million isn’t much of an overpayment in my view. It certainly isn’t Montreal’s worst forward contract if that counts as a positive argument.

Right, but that is if last season’s results become the norm, not if it was an aberration….

Montreal would have been better off keeping Halak, trading Price, and letting Plekanec go. This is not a good deal for the Canadiens.

seems like a panic move to me after all the backlash they got for trading halak.  5 million is too much for pleckanec, hes more around 4, but i guess they had to sign him or face even more from the fans.
