Canada Deserves A Winter Classic Game

from Chris Zelkovich of the Toronto Star,

Friday’s NHL outdoor game at Fenway Park is creating a fair bit of excitement around the CBC.

But as much as Hockey Night In Canada executive producer Sherali Najak is looking forward to using his Green Monster camera and capturing the history of the first NHL game played in the house that Ted Williams built, there’s one thing that would make it even better for him and the CBC: another game in Canada.

“That would make a huge difference for us,” Najak says, recalling the initial outdoor game in Edmonton. “The buzz on Canadian soil is always more special for Canadian fans.

“Hockey is our game and people will watch regardless. But when you take over an NHL city with an outdoor game, it’s something special.

“I think the country deserves a game here.”
