Canada Is Gold In Sochi

Congratulations to Team Canada for winning the gold medal in men's hockey.

Canada defeated Sweden 3-0 by dominating the Swedes on both ends of the ice.

Hopefully we see the NHL players participating in the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea and I am on the side of the players.  If they want to play, the NHL should stand behind their decision.

After all, it's not Olympic hockey without the best players in the world.

Good game. Definitely think that the US-Russia and Canada-US games were more exciting and even, but I guess…credit to Babcock for getting that forecheck and team defense gelling so well; it wasn’t close today. Really led to a ton of shots off of the transition game.

So, none before 1998, eh? Man, someone better tell the Miracle on Ice team…

The World Championships have the best players in the world. Traditionally, the Olympics have had the best amateur athletes in the world—that used to be the point of it. I’m not delusional enough to think we’ll ever go back to that, but I miss it—I watch the pros three times a week already, there’s very little that’s exciting to me about watching them rearranged.

Well, if you think the best players in the world tend to come from NHL teams eliminated from the playoffs, sure. The World Championships was somewhat relevant in the late 70s and early 80s prior to those little changes in the Soviet Union, but the pool of players is automatically going to be smaller than that for the Olympics, so I don’t see how it compares.

The best overall tourneys for hockey in my opinion were the Canada Cups / World Cups. Training camps, time between games, best of three finals. Good times.

Yeah I spoke too soon on that; I was thinking more of track & field lol. Having the pros involved will always feel kind of silly to me, BUT money talks, and I’m not going to pretend I didn’t watch…
