The baby Jets were stymied by Oilers ‘tender Tyler Bunz, who turned away the 22 shots Winnipeg could muster up throughout three periods that didn’t bring nearly the same level of excitement as the 4-0 victory over the Sharks rookies/prospects. The Oilers dominated the Jets in most areas of the ice, although some valiant efforts in the dying minutes of the game were shut down singlehandedly by Bunz.
Best to look forward to Thursday afternoon’s game against the Vancouver Canucks, a handful of whom have seen ice time in Winnipeg last year during stints with the Manitoba Moose. Um, I’m not really sure how that’s relevant, as they’re playing in Penticton, but, uh, whatever. The game starts tomorrow at 11:30 AM Pacific (1:30 Central).
Two other big pieces of late-ish breaking news today:
- The Jets have called a press conference for 10:00 AM tomorrow morning to make a “significant ticketing announcment.” Seems likely it’ll have to do with the availability of the handful of tickets that weren’t snatched up during the Drive to 13,000 season ticket campaign. Over/under on me getting a pair for the home opener against the Habs?
- The Jets also signed holdout d-man Zach Bogosian to a two-year contract. While the team didn’t disclose terms, ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun tweeted that the two-year deal will pay Bogosian $2 million this year and $3 million in 2012-2013. Seems like a decent signing to me - by most accounts Bogosian wanted some big money, and in my mind he has yet to really earn it. This term/money will mean he’ll have to prove he’s worth it before he lands the big paycheque (although whether or not there are bonuses as well isn’t known to me).
Thoughts on the Bogo contract - good/bad?
