Building A Dynasty In Chicago?

from Dan Rosen of NHL.com,

After being forced into dismantling nearly half of his championship roster throughout the summer of 2010,Chicago Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman has made all the moves necessary to build a team that could be the NHL's first cap-era dynasty.

"He continues to keep the core of his team together and he's got good contracts," NHL Network analyst and former general manager Craig Button told NHL.com. "I think they're in position now to be that team for the next five, six, maybe seven years, somewhere in that range, that is in the conversation as Stanley Cup contenders. Can they win two, three, four, five? I don't know. But I do know that they're positioned perfectly."

It is going to have to be reworked again.  I didn’t realize how dire their situation was until I looked up the numbers for the Sedin brothers thread.  They’ve got just 14 players under contract next year and are already at a high salary, with Handzus, Morin, Hayes, and Shaw all in line for a raise if they play as good this season as they did in the playoffs.  The cap going up, or not, will be a huge game changer for them.

Then, in 2015, Toews, Kane, Kruger, Leddy and Saad are all free agents.  They’ll probably all get big raises.  Kane and Toews, in particular, are probably underpaid at 6.3 and will be unrestricted.  You have to think that if, for example, Buffalo offered Kane 8.5M a season or somewhere thereabouts he’d have to consider going home to play.  Heck, the extra 2.2M could start and operate a decent taxi service.

I remember looking at their cap geek numbers before the playoffs and thinking they had maybe 2 more years before the floor fell out… Or the ceiling collapsed, I guess.
