Bryzgalov Available To Media Only After Games He Plays

from Tim Panaccio of Flyers Talk,

In a rather curious turn of events, the Flyers announced on Monday morning that goalie Ilya Bryzgalov will no longer talk to the media except in postgame situations in which he plays.

The chatter box had been shut down.

The Flyers say this was Bryzgalov’s idea and not theirs. Yet the timing is rather curious.

On Friday, goalie coach Jeff Reese met with the media and talked about Bryzgalov’s recent play and why things had gone south on him.

Reese said more than once that he felt Bryzgalov was “distracted” by  number of things, among them, his daily interactions with the media.

Update 2:23pm ET: From Mike Halford at ProHockeyTalk

...the Philadelphia chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association has filed a complaint, according to Sam Carchidi of Philly.com. Carchidi also notes the Flyers could be fined for not giving reporters proper player access.

[In addition, Carchidi points out Bryz’s original gag order has been amended: He will talk to the media, except the day before a game and the day of a game.]
