Bruins sweep Penguins, advance to Stanley Cup Final

The Boston Bruins defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 1-0 on Friday and swept the teams' Eastern Conference Final series, advancing to the Stanley Cup Final, where they'll face the winner of the Los Angeles-Chicago series (presumably next Wednesday or Friday).

I can't help but think that even in the defensive struggle that took place on Friday, somewhat ironically decided by an Adam McQuaid goal tipped top shelf by Jarome Iginla's stick, that the Bruins did more than ride a hot goalie. They plain old out-classed the Penguins, and I would not argue that this was a "choke" job by Pittsburgh. The Bruins were just a level above the All-Star Penguin team, and the team's system of play out-shone the Penguins' stars by a substantial margin.

Well there goes the NHL’s ability to draw ratings for the finals what with no #87 to promote.  How will the league survive without its poster child? Not normally a bruins fan, but I am tonight!  cool smile

NO risk with Rask! #TGIF The Goalie Is Fabulous!
#54 scored the game’s only goal.
Ironically,  shots were 54-40 in the last OT game.

How about some 54-40 to celebrate the Bruins win?

The biggest thing for me is Dan Byslma’s playoff home record:

A place where you’re supposed to get favorable matchups no less.

Thats just not good enough.

So many coaches out there right now that it would be a shame to miss out on some of them.

I think Bylsma is kinda’ overrated, but… you can’t seriously think Regier, Tortorella, or Vigneault are more-qualified somehow?

Tippett is unclear whether he is Staying !

Bylsma SUCKS !! I thank him for the SC But his system once people took it apart was shredded in the playoffs.

Main reason they were 10-12 at home during his reign of terror ?? he doesn’t give a *#$%@& about matchups so Road teams get the matchups they want even in Pgh. Stick to the RW’s will Ya

Like you and someone else said earlier…it’s like Bylsma rode Therrien’s team to the Finals and received all the credit.

.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) that is why I have wanted him gone for 3 seasons & post seasons he walked into a perfect storm & took over a team that was utterly & Completely sick of MT’s BS gamesBUT they still had his his system which Bylsma could only tweak & still had the attention to detail & Defense that he pounded into their heads

Penguins have not been swept for FORTY FIVE straight playoff series. The last team that swept them was the ‘79 Bruins. (via @EliasSports)

Firing Bylsma isn’t going to get PIT a starting goalie that isn’t a head-case, a competent blueline, or a “leadership” group that doesn’t respond to every tiny bit of resistance or challenge by whining and acting out like a bunch of 3 year-olds.

Have fun with that.

It’s amazing how much credit Therrien gets now BTW, a few years down the road.  At the time, Pens fans were saying the same things about him that they are now saying about Bylsma.  I suppose in another few years if they can Bylsma, that new coach will just be riding Bylsma’s coat tails and group?

I think Tippet is the best coach that is available. If he’s available, anyways. Sounds like he’d be happy to stay here in Phoenix if they got the ownership figured out. Which is a giant IF, obviously.

Bylsma should be fired. This round was a seriously pathetic showing from top to the bottom for the Pens. Credit to Boston too, but the Pens got punked out.

Primis has a point about the resolve of Pittsburgh. It sure seemed that Boston learned a useful lesson from the Philly/Pens series last year. Push the Pens around, treat’em like bi**hes and they’ll implode in a conniption of retaliation and whining. That’s poor leadership on the ice.

My guess is Boston will play Chicago in the Finals. As soon as the horn sounds on Chicago’s 4th win over LA, everyone affiliated with the Hawks will start pre-whining about the thuggish Bruins in an effort to get the refs to use their whistles, and it will work.

If I interpret that tweet by Bob McKenzie right, he doesn’t think much of LA’s chances.

Not sure how you read that. If LA wins the series, Boston has home ice. If Chicago wins, they do. Basically it says if the WCF is over in 5, SCF starts Wed., otherwise it starts next Saturday regardless of how long it goes.
