In the here and now it’s difficult to know what forces Boeser unleashed on his career in Tampa but it’s safe to say something changed during All-Star weekend. As a result of his starring turn, Boeser morphed from a nice regional story for the Canucks to a verifiable phenom in the hockey world.

He was all over NBC’s and CBC’s coverage of the … er … mid-season classic. Go to the ESPN website and there’s Boeser. He’s there in The Sporting News and The Hockey News. Type the words Brock Boeser and All-Star Game MVP into a search engine and you get 95,700 matches. Then there’s that great picture of Boeser that ran everywhere, the shiny new star standing in front of his shiny new car for being named the game’s MVP.

The money was nice, too. On top of everything else, Boeser cashed in a winning lottery ticket in Florida this weekend, taking in around US$600,000 in prize money, bonuses and other trinkets.
