Brian Burke Meets The Media

Speaking to the media at the Air Canada Centre on Saturday three days after being fired as senior vice-president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Burke gave a clear answer as to what went wrong under his direction.

"We didn't win enough, and that's why we're here today," he said prior to answering questions from reporters.

"I did not accomplish what I set out to accomplish."

Burke said he would take a GM job with an NHL team tomorrow, he is in the job market.

Right now he will be senior advisor to MLSE, not the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Any GM with Brian Burke’s record in Toronto would probably see the ax, but you got to imagine when the biggest star in hockey’s biggest market is the GM and not the players, there’s a problem.
