Brian Boyle Decided Tampa Bay Was The Place To Play

from Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune,

After hearing rave reviews on the Lightning — not to mention living in Tampa — Boyle opted to join forces with Callahan once again and signed a three-year contract with Tampa Bay worth $6 million.

Boyle was on his honeymoon in Maui when he signed his new deal, and with wife Lauren Bedford, a model in consideration for the next Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, hailing from Orlando, it didn’t take long to sign on the dotted line.

“It was always something I had my eye on if it came up, and me and my wife talked about it — if down the road, wouldn’t that be a nice place to play,’’ Boyle said. “Lucky for us, it happened two days later and we jumped on it.’’

There was plenty of interest from other teams — Boyle had an offer on the table from the Maple Leafs — to sign the 6-foot-7, 240-pound center who helped the Rangers reach the Stanley Cup finals last season.

But didn’t take it…gasp!!!

That will come as quite a shock to Maple Leaf fans and media, who have convinced themselves that every hockey player, from the time of exiting the birth canal until death, wants to one day play in Toronto.

Any ideas on how to explain this exact same concept to Detroit fans and media?

You’re equating Detroit fans and media to Toronto?

Apples and oranges.

Detroit has been a destination for big name FAs in the past because Detroit has had an extraordinary run these past two decades. As such, the idea that Detroit was, until recently, a priority for potential FA’s is founded upon something other than wishful thinking, or believing it is simply part of a hockey player’s DNA to want to play there.

What basis does the Toronto media and fans use to justify the belief all players want to gravitate to them?

Nothing, besides they are the self-proclaimed ‘center of the hockey universe’.

At least the belief that FA’s once desired an opportunity to play in Detroit has a bit of substance to it.

You’re right. Apples and oranges.

I mean, the Wings did get Kyle Quincey to sign in Detroit while Toronto completely struck out.

You didn’t address my point, so I think it’s safe to say we can move on

You’re as delusional and full of it as you obsessively claim that the Toronto media is.
