Kukla's Korner Hockey

from Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province,
He was a popular choice to buck the odds, but a franchise philosophy and the salary cap caught up to Brendan Morrison when the Canucks released him on Sunday.
The club’s former centre was released from his professional tryout and, as an unrestricted free agent, the 35-year-old Pitt Meadows native is now free to explore other options if he chooses to extend his career. Calgary may be one with the Flames losing Matt Stajan, Daymond Langkow, David Moss and Ales Kotalik to injuries. That could happen because the Canucks and Morrison couldn’t come to terms and there is interest in his services elsewhere.
