Brandon Dubinsky Out Six Weeks After Abdominal Surgery

10/08/2014 at 12:55pm EDT

from Shawn Mitchell of Puck-Rakers,

The Blue Jackets have been staggered by injuries, absences and an ever-changing roster throughout training camp. But the biggest blow might have come today, on the eve of the season opener on Thursday at Buffalo.

Center Brandon Dubinsky had abdominal surgery in Philadelphia this morning and is expected to miss six weeks, Blue Jackets coach Todd Richards said....

The heart-and-soul forward joins a list of injured players that includes left wing Boone Jenner (broken left hand), right wing Nathan Horton (back), defenseman Ryan Murray (knee) and forward Brian Gibbons (undisclosed).

“It’s a big blow,” Blue Jackets coach Todd Richards said. “But I feel good about this group. We’d like to have Brandon in the lineup, but I think everyone deals with injuries at different times in the season. We’ve just got to deal with an injury right now.”
