Boyd on waivers, Lapierre moves up

So Dustin Boyd is on waivers, much to Jacques Martin’s surprise (based on his comments to the media…the questions seemed to catch him off guard), and Max Lapierre is apparently the latest to audition for the second line left wing spot.

Because, let’s be honest, after four or five years as a checker/pest/grinder, it makes perfect sense that Maxime Lapierre can now be a contributing second liner.

Or not.

As the Habs continue to try and fill that top six spot, is there a move afoot? It seems odd that Boyd was suddenly waived, especially after Lars Eller was a healthy scratch. Could Aaron Palushaj or Max Pacioretty be on their way up to the big club? Could a trade be in the works? Are the Habs going to take my advice and reach out to free agent Bill Guerin, or perhaps Owen Nolan? As of this evening, the Team 990’s Tony Marinaro, who had Guerin as a guest on the radio earlier today, said Guerin had not received a call from Montreal (though he’d love to play for the Habs…although I suspect he’d just like to play, period).

I would like to believe that GM Pierre Gauthier has a bold move up his sleeve. But I doubt it. I would expect a call up - Ryan White seems unlikely, given his sorry start to the year in the AHL. Pacioretty and Palushaj have been good, but they are still developing. Could David Desharnais be on his way, bringing creativity to the mix? Another possibility: is MA Bergeron on his way as a 7th defenceman/13th forward? Lord knows he’s terrible defensively, but if used solely on special teams, he can be effective.

I can’t believe the Canadiens have placed Boyd on waivers solely for the purpose of waiving him. Someone is going to claim him, or someone is on their way up from Hamilton. Keep your ear to the ground, because we should know by tomorrow.

i still don’t understand your fascination with decrepit, washed up old men who will contribute about what doug gilmour did a decade ago: bugger all.

Ransacker, I disagree completely on usefulness of Guerin and Nolan. They are big bodies that can add 20 goals each and will beef up the size of this team. They also will be valuable in the dressing room.

Gauthier is getting a bad rap. He hasn’t been at the helm very long and there is not a lot of opportunity to make moves the way this team is structured. He is a very smart hockey person who I think over time will make some very wise roster moves.
