Wow, big bucks and term again for Jbo. Guess St. Lose didn’t learn from Calgary’s mistakes? Still, glad to see him land somewhere he obviously fits.

Ever wonder what would have happened to Bouwmeester if he’d ended up drafted by someone other than Florida?  Florida seems to be a team that drafts young guys, screws them up, and you just hope they move on and get enough of a chance elsewhere to make something of themselves.

I’d take JBo, and that contract, on the Wings.  Right now.  He’s a minute-eater, he’s got lots of experience, and who knows what he does in time on a GOOD team.  Also his last name does not start with “Q” and end in “Y”.  He’s maybe not a #1 on a good team, but he’s still a legit first pairing guy.

This is actually a pretty decent time to be offering term.  If the cap begins to climb again, as we all expect, this deal may seem awfully cheap for a #2-4 defenseman in a year or two.

This is the contract Bouwmeester has been worth his whole career.  What really killed his reputation was getting a stupid contract from Calgary (what a surprise) and then having the expectation of being a #1 dman combined with playing on a team run by morons.

He’s never been that kind of player, but the contract made people think of him as that kind of player, so as he played out that old deal and played just like he always had it made him look a lot worse, a lot more disappointing, than he really was.

Moving East to West knocked his offensive production down a bit, but other than that he was fine… as a strong #2 dman who should be making around 5 mil a year.

I think this is a fair price. You could argue that now that he’s a bit older the term is a little scary, but he’s always been fairly healthy and reliable. If I were a Blues fan I’d be pretty happy with this deal. That team has slowly but surely locked up a number of really good players for a nice multi-year window.

He’s six months older than… Ericsson.

Dude is 29.

You guys do realize they now have Jbo with a $5.4m cap hit and Shattenkirk with a $4.25m cap hit, without having extended Pietrangelo, right?

So after they pay him ~6.5m a year they’ll have $16m in cap space dedicated to these three guys. Seems like a bit much for a team that is clearly headed for more middle-of-the-road mediocrity for the next while.
