“Well, right now, we don’t know, to be honest,” Cassidy said Sunday. “We’re looking at all the (injured) guys we talked about, and if they can’t go, we’ll look to Providence and find a replacement.”

The Bruins have lost four defensemen to injury in their past four games. Two made strides toward a return during an optional practice at Warrior Ice Arena.

Colin Miller, who sustained a lower-body injury in Game 1, appeared to be the closest to returning after he skated with a small group Sunday. Brandon Carlo (upper body) also skated, but he’s doubtful for Monday's game, according to Cassidy.

Torey Krug (lower body), who has missed the past three games, and Adam McQuaid, who was injured in the first period of the 4-3 overtime loss in Game 2, did not skate.

Senators head coach Guy Boucher, generally tight-lipped about his lineup throughout the playoffs, told reporters at the Warrior Ice Den on Sunday that Borowiecki was day-to-day and his status would be determined Monday. After the 4-3 overtime win on Saturday, Boucher had indicated that Borowiecki could have returned to the game, but was kept out.

“We’ll see (Monday),” Boucher said following a team meeting.

Boucher said there was a possibility Borowiecki could play in Game 3, but also noted the club had extra defencemen Fredrik Claesson and Ben Harpur on the roster, so it might be better to give somebody else a chance if there was a risk associated with playing Borowiecki.
