from Mark Whicker of the OC Register,
Bob Murray commuted Carlyle’s sentence Sunday morning. Then Murray bit the bullet by becoming the Ducks’ interim coach.
“It was tough putting the skates on again, trust me,” Murray said.
He told the Ducks there were a “lot of good players” wearing the uniform they had been defiling with their recent play.
They have lost seven consecutive games by a total score of 37-6. They have won two games since Dec. 17. They are dead last in the Western Conference and have a league-worst goal differential of minus-55.
Jakob Silfverberg is their goal-scoring leader with 12. He would be the leader of no other team but Arizona.
“There’s been no passion, no pushback, and we’ve always had that,” Murray said. “There are too many guys following, and more people should be leading. That’s why I’m very worried. I need to see it up close in order to get it fixed.”
Indeed, this is the longest period of purely non-competitive play in the Ducks’ history.
