Blackhawks Remain Silent On Latest Kane Incident

from Steve Rosenbloom of the Chicago Tribune,

Nothing from the Hawks. No matter how many times the Hawks are asked. Nothing.

So, Kane gets the same kind of defense off the ice that he provides on it. That says the problem child is guilty.

It’s also might say something else: that someone at every level of the organ-I-zation is trying to trade Kane.

Think about it: Someone at every level would have reason to want Kane’s immature, image-staining, overrated, playoff-failing backside out of here.

This is like “Clue,’’ only the board game is played on ice, or face down in a bar.

People up and down the flow chart would have a motive to dump Kane, starting with owner Rocky Wirtz. It’s his team that Kane continually embarrasses going back those limo photos in Vancouver. It’s his franchise that looks stupid going back to Kane’s abuse of a senior citizen driving a taxi in Buffalo. It’s his name on the checks that average $5 million for below-average seasons from Kane. You wouldn’t just understand Wirtz’s demand to run Kane out of town, geez, you’d applaud.

LOL. What an idiot.  Over a point per game playoff performer at the age of 23 but he has a “playoff-failing backside”? Another great hack job in local Blackhawk coverage.  Why let real things like statistics get in the way?

Kane comes off looking like a terribly annoying fratboy and the journalist comes off as a terribly annoying cliché of the sensationalist journalist: blanketing statements, over-rash conclusions (how the puck do you put the embarassed silence of team brass with the willingness to trade one of its best players???), lack of research, opinion, opinion, opinion and very little info. And badly written on top of it.

and very little info

seems like there is plenty of info to be suspicious of bad behavior.  The question is whether or not you care, and this writer does.  That’s opinion.  Is it sensationalist?  Maybe a little, but Kane has established a trend that will bring this kind of scrutiny, and he’s gonna have to live with it.

Kane is an immature ass, he’s made that pretty clear over the past couple seasons. He’s riding on talent alone, doesn’t seem to put any effort into working or conditioning in the offseason. His production this past season was a disappointment. Could be an off year, but given his lifestyle and the work ethic issues, he’d have to change a lot to turn it around. His production will drop substantially in a few years, when his youth can no longer overcome his lifestyle.

The article definitely came across as biased, but I think the points it made were valid.

I remember Game 7 of the series against Vancouver last year where Toews came out like a maniac and just took over the game and tied it w/ a couple minutes left to force OT. During those last couple minutes Kane got knocked off the puck and went down and then sat on one knee, leaning on his stick watching the play go on. Another Blackhawk skated by and tapped him on with his stick and Kane finally hopped up and skated half-assed back to the bench. It didn’t look like a friendly tap and guys on the bench didn’t look pleased that Kane came off the ice so casually. The difference between Toews and Kane in that Game 7, down by a goal, was remarkable. It’s no wonder the entire league admires Toews as a complete player and a leader and Kane has 2-3 articles/year written about what a jerk he is.

Any fan of the Hawks knows Kane is essential to this team’s offense. His behavior is bad and needs to change. End of story!

Kane is essential to this team’s offense.

Toews is essential. Kane is not. People used to think Fedorov was essential to the Red Wings. Turned out he wasn’t.

Kane’s production can be replaced by more than a few guys in that price range. Some can even play defense. I think the article was sort of about how the the Hawks are trying to tamp down the bad press so it doesn’t sour the potential to deal him for “full value”.... meaning all value for his skill with no deduction for his problems.

If Kane’s problems aren’t getting better, and who really knows?, then trading him soon is the way to go, before his rep is tarnished even more. I imagine this is an ongoing conversation with some of the Hawks front office.
