Blackhawks Fans Prep For Cup’s Return to United Center

By Mike Shackil,

The Chicago Blackhawks are currently enjoying a period of success that is unmatched in the club's 90-year history in the National Hockey League. After going 50 years without winning a championship, the Blackhawks are now poised to win their third title in the last six seasons, as they are tied at one-game apiece with the Tampa Bay Lightning in this year's Stanley Cup Final.

Such success comes at a price, at least as far as Stanley Cup tickets are concerned. According to the NHL Ticket Exchange By Ticketmaster, Blackhawks fans who want to see their team in person during this year's Stanley Cup Finals will encounter an average price of $1,884 to the games at the United Center in Chicago. That's an increase of nearly 30% from 2013, when Blackhawks fans paid an average of $1,458 per ticket to attend any of the three Cup Final contests at United Center when their team defeated the Boston Bruins in six games. It's also 20% more expensive than 2010, when Chicago downed the Philadelphia Flyers, also in six games, and the average ticket price was $1,565.00.

Over the last five years, the average price of a ticket to the Stanley Cup Final has fluctuated between a low of $994.00 in 2012 (Los Angeles Kings over New Jersey Devils) to a high of $1,573.00 last year, when the Kings won their second Cup by beating the New York Rangers.

According to Ticketmaster, the least expensive tickets for Blackhawks Stanley Cup games at the United Center in this year's final is $485 for Game 3.

Conversely, tickets for Stanley Cup games in Tampa Bay average $1,204.99, including Game 5 on Saturday and a possible Game 7. Tampa Bay is in the Final for the second time in its 22-year history and looking to win its second Stanley Cup; the Lightning captured the title in 2004 when they defeated the Calgary Flames in seven games.

Blackhawks fans who will be attending Games 3 and 4 at the United Center on Monday and Wednesday paid plenty for their tickets. Surely they hope it proves to be money well spent.
