Today's hockey history lesson... from Steve Milton of Sportsnet,
Rocket Richard. You may remember what happened when The Rocket, just four years short of his death from cancer, was introduced on the Forum's closing night in the late winter of 1996. An 11-minute standing ovation. Try clapping for, say, six straight minutes. Or five, or even three. You will see how much emotion and adrenalin you'd need to sustain yourself to 11 minutes. And the ovation only died because Richard asked it to, just as he asked the fans of Montreal to calm themselves after the St. Patrick's Day riot of 1955.
