Ben Bishop’s Career Is Over

from David Satriano of NHL.com,

Ben Bishop will not play again in the NHL, Dallas Stars general manager Jim Nill said Saturday.

The 35-year-old goalie was placed on long-term injured reserve Oct. 11. He had surgery Oct. 21, 2020 to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee and did not play last season.

Bishop began a conditioning stint with Texas of the American Hockey League last week. He allowed eight goals on 34 shots in an 8-4 loss to Chicago on Dec. 9. It was his first game since Aug. 31, 2020, when he allowed four goals on 19 shots in 13:43 of a 6-3 loss to the Colorado Avalanche in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

"It's no secret, he has a degenerative knee injury, and he went down there (AHL), he wanted to be a big part of this," Stars general manager Jim Nill told the Dallas Morning News. "He wanted to do everything he could to get back. In the end, by going through the process, going down there and playing, he found out that it's the end of his career."

I remember they pushed him back in the playoffs one game
a couple seasons back and it was as awkward and physically uncomfortable looking
as I’ve ever seen an NHL caliber goalie look - even given rust from being out with injuries. It was like: omg what were they thinking - he can’t play!
And right after that they shut him down long-term
