Be Patient Toronto Fans

from Mike Brophy of Sportsnet,
That was the message that Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke delivered following the 2012 NHL entry draft in which he chose six players, none of whom will help his team next season.
Burke is adamant that significant changes are coming, but despite trade talks with other GMs, he was unable to swing a deal other than sending impending unrestricted free agent goaltender Jonas Gustavsson to the Winnipeg Jets for a conditional seventh round pick in next year’s draft.
If Leafs fans are chomping at the bit for big changes, Burke said they are going to have to be patient.
“First off, what’s the date today, the 23rd of June?” Burke asked. “We’re not starting for a while so I’d say it’s a work in progress and we need to do some things. This is a starting point for the summer; not an ending point, but it’s an important day and out focus has been, let’s see if we can improve our team at the draft and we think we have done that. Now we have to go to the next stage.”

And, just to be fair, don’t be upset that Burke chose 6 guys in the draft who aren’t going to help the Leafs this year. Be upset that he’s chosen 12-16 guys to be on his active roster who aren’t going to help the Leafs this year.

Just wait a little while longer, Leafs fans. It’s only been 4 years. Don’t rush the guy.
