from Dominique La Haye at the Toronto Sun,
The legal saga involving Canadian NHL player Shane Doan and MP Denis Coderre will be back in Montreal Superior Court on Sept. 7.
The two men are each suing the other for defamation in relation to the events of Dec. 13, 2005 during a hockey game between the Montreal Canadiens and Phoenix Coyotes at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
During the game, Doan, a Coyotes forward, is alleged to have referred to four officials as “f—-ing Frenchmen.” That night, Doan was penalized after linesman Michel Cormier accused Doan of making racist comments towards him and his colleagues.

If the word a minority group uses to describe itself reveals anything about a situation, it’s worth noting that the preferred term used by Quebecois in disputes between English-speaking and French-speaking Canadians is “racism,” not discrimination. That’s scary.

I’d also like to point out how much I am in disbelief that a politician from Quebec would be using a possible dispute between an English Canadian and a French Canadian to get his name out and try to further his career. Shocked!

Doan should ask for a change of venue so his fate won’t be adjudicated by some fauxing frenchman.
I’m going to re-watch the Rocket Richard movie now. “Hey Pea Soup!”

I have been hearing lots of people talk about this. If the player, Doan simply called them french man then it really should not be a big deal. Some of the Canadian referees really think they run the league. If Doan did not use any derogatory terms, then they should drop the litigation. From what I read; these referees just think way too much of themselves. After all this is hockey! Its a tough sport and if you can’t take criticism then you should not be a ref! A couple of my friends still live in Toronto and they have met some aspiring officials. They said that you have to remember most of these officials or referes are players who did not make it to the NHL. Most of those officials are guys who are angry that they didnt make it as athletes. So you can imagine why they are so arrogant.
