Balancing The Scale

from Bob McKenzie of TSN,
It’s been billed as the greatest collapse in the history of the WJC and that about sums it up. If there’s been one worse than that, I don’t recall it. It might just be, as the kids like to say these days, the greatest “epic fail” in Canadian international hockey. Ever.
How would you like to throw that on your resume?
All that said, it’s not as if blowing a three-goal lead in the third period never happens in hockey.
In the NHL, since the lockout, it has happened, on average, at least once a season. Eight times in 1,226 regular season games since 2005-06, if you are looking to be precise.
But there weren’t four or five million Canadians watching those collapses, it wasn’t the World Junior Championship and the team falling apart in the third period didn’t have a Maple Leaf on their chest. Well, at least not a red one.

Quite a bit of crow being devoured in the True North Strong and Free right now, I suppose.

Those kids didn’t fail, they were just being polite Canadians who didn’t want the Russian kids to be embarassed..

It’s funny, because so many Canadian pundits were worried that Team Canada was to “blue collar” to win, and now that Canada DID lose we’re somehow eating crow?
Do you actually know what it means to eat crow?
I mean, I know you’re from the Upper Peninsula, but I actually do know some Yoopers who have a competent grasp of English idioms.

The Canadian kids should be proud of their silver medals. They played some great hockey this tournament. But, that said, it was a massive collapse in the 3rd. Part of it was great play by the Russians, always working hard and never giving up. But part of it was undisciplined play by the Canadians.

Precise, eh? There are 1230 games in a single season. Or did some poor bastard count up the number of games where a team had a three goal lead in the third? If so, 1226 seems pretty high, that’s roughly one in every 4.5 games.

I would put that as:

That seems like a pretty good bullet to me.
