from Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun,
The losses, the injuries and the frustrations are piling up on the Senators.
Where will it stop? Nobody knows.
The Senators were looking for redemption for an ugly 6-3 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Thursday as they returned to the Canadian Tire Centre on Friday night. While they were better, they weren’t nearly good enough in a 5-2 loss to the New York Islanders to open a three-game homestand in front of 18,305.
A frustrated Bobby Ryan called this loss and the way the Senators are playing “embarrassing” after they surrendered three goals in the third. Is it tough to play 60 minutes, he was asked?
“It shouldn’t be. It’s your job to go out and do it for 60 minutes,” said Ryan. “We had problems in the third period all over the ice from everybody. Guys that simply don’t want the puck, guys that simply won’t hunt the puck down and when you’re not buying into the system, it’s going to take its toll.
“That’s exactly what (happened) in the third period. They did everything right and we did everything wrong to compound the issue. It’s embarrassing.”
And, if that wasn’t enough, already without centre Kyle Turris — likely until after next week’s NHL all-star break — they lost winger Milan Michalek for a second time this season after he broke a hand blocking a shot in the second period. It’s the same one that forced him to miss 16 games last month.
