Loui Eriksson, Vancouver
Contract | 6 years, $36 million ($6 million cap hit)
Is Vancouver trying to rebuild or contend — or both? Even the Canucks don’t seem to know after signing the 30-year-old. The Sedins will no doubt love playing with Eriksson, who scored 30 goals and 63 points with the Bruins last season, but this move alone will not turn the Canucks into Stanley Cup contenders. If anything, he will stall a rebuild that already should be underway.Milan Lucic, Edmonton
Contract | 7 years, $42 million ($6 million cap hit)
This might not be as bad as the time the Maple Leafs signed David Clarkson for seven years at $36.75 million, but it’s darn close. Don’t be surprised if the Oilers also come to regret this deal in the next two years — especially after trading away Taylor Hall. We understand Oilers general manager Peter Chiarelli wanting to protect Connor McDavid and make Edmonton a tougher team to play against, but signing a 28-year-old in a 38-year-old’s body is not the answer.Kyle Okposo, Buffalo Sabres
Contract | 7 years, $42 million ($6 million cap hit)
The John Tavares-effect is constantly brought up when talking about Okposo’s production with the Islanders. Fair or not, Okposo still only managed 22 goals and 64 points last season. That’s not worth $6-million a year. Then again, it takes only one team....
