Babcock Talking To Media

Babcock is addressing the media now, Wings lockerroom is off limits to press tonight. Will update any pertinent information from Babcock when it becomes available. update 9:17pm, I think it is a good sign that John Hahn of the Wings reported that Fischer should be ok. If there was any doubt at all, Hahn would not have made a comment like that. update 9:23pm, Fan just called into Wings post game radio show, said it took about 7-8 minutes before any type of equipment reached Fischer. I must agree with the man, who was seated near the Wings bench. Fisher was being treated manually by the Dr. and also one of the Wings asst. coaches. update 9:29pm, As I mentioned earlier, Fischer did have a bit of a heart problem, from TSN,
Fischer was diagnosed with a heart abnormality in September 2002, causing him to miss two days of practice. The problem was found on an electrocardiogram as part of a routine battery of tests during the Red Wings' pre-season physicals. When the result was abnormal, Fischer was given a stress test that he passed. "There is a little abnormality, but nothing that will stop me from playing," Fischer said at the time. "It's nothing that will bother me emotionally." He said that his heart essentially is a little thicker than normal. "I wasn't scared about the abnormality," Fischer said. "But I was scared about not playing hockey again. That was a shock for me."
update 9:36pm, Most of the Wings are headed to the hospital, where Fischer is talking.... Babcock said Fisher was on the bench and just had a seizure, his heart did stop and no pulse, but hooked up a defibulator (sp) and heartbeat came back. Now stable and should be fine. Wings lead by Yzerman and Shanahan told Jim Gergory from the NHL who was there to give Shanny an award for his 600th assist, that the Wings were not going to play. Babcock was asked what does stable condition mean, he responed that they will find out more when they get to the hospital but it is at least good news that he is awake and talking. update 9:43pm, Yzerman and Shanahan met with the press: Yzerman said the players were not sure why Fischer went down and then the Dr. took over and the players were helpless and felt useless. Shanny said a couple of the Wings jumped on the ice and yelled for the officials to stop the game, they were confused as were the Nashville players. Brendan mentioned he felt it was important to be at the hospital to show Fischer the support he has. Yzerman said he had a helpless feeling, he has seen things like this on TV, but never experienced it before. Steve also mentioned a female was there helping the doctor, not sure who she was. update 9:45pm, Video from the game. update 10:09pm, That just about wraps it up. Wings post game went off to Monday Night Football, local news is reporting nothing that we don't know, so if anything else breaks, I will update.
