Average Price Of 2016 Blackhawks Playoff Tickets Nearly Double That Of Regular Season- Resale Market

By Joe Sudberg,

Surprise, surprise – the Chicago Blackhawks have clinched yet another postseason berth in 2016, and while the dynasty debate drudges on, excitement for playoff hockey continues to grow in the Windy City. The Hawks have punched their ticket to the playoffs for the eighth consecutive year and - if all goes swimmingly this spring – have the chance lift their fourth Stanley Cup since the turn of the decade.

Like each year, however, fans hoping to get their hands on Blackhawks playoff tickets will be hit with big prices on the resale market as the team prepares for the first round. According to the secondary ticket market, the average price forBlackhawks playoff tickets at United Center during the Quarterfinal round is now $433.77. That marks an 81.6% premium over the team’s season average of $238.77.

High ticket prices have been a recurring theme for the Blackhawks over the last seven seasons. Last year, the Hawks took on the Nashville Predators in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs and hosted Games 3, 4 and 6 at United Center. Over those three games, the average resale price for tickets was $374.50 – making this year’s opening round series nearly 16% more expensive on average.

Of course, those traveling from out of town won’t have to dish out the same amount of cash whensearching for hotel accommodations around the city. Fans can find lodging for as low as $77 per night throughout the month of April.

Playoff streaks are nothing new for the Blackhawks. The franchise experienced a fruitful era between 1970 and 1997, clinching a berth in 28 straight seasons. Despite their dominant run, however, the Blackhawks failed to hoist a Cup during that period. Their 2010 Stanley Cup victory broke a 49-year drought in Chicago, and head coach Joel Quenneville has led the Blackhawks back to the postseason each year since.

Expect to pay to see even higher price premiums on the resale market if the Blackhawks advance to the later rounds of the 2016 NHL Playoffs. Semifinals tickets at United Center are currently averaging over $500, while Conference Finals tickets are nearing the $1,000 average. Should the team return to the Finals for the second consecutive season, tickets will likely average north of $2,000. Last year, Blackhawks Stanley Cup Finals tickets owned a $2,117.82 average over three games at United Center.
