Artemi Panarin On The State Of Russia

from A.J. Perez of USA TODAY,

New York Rangers star Artemi Panarin rebuked the refrain from many in his native Russia — including ballet icon Anastasia Volochkova — who say they can leave the country if they are upset over the state of affairs under longtime leader Vladimir Putin.

“All the major brains have already left (Russia),"  Panarin told journalist Alexander Golovin who posted the hourlong interview on YouTube. "That's not the way it should be."

The translated interview is amazing.

If you know Panarin’s story he came form an isolated coal town in the interior
and barely had the hand me downs to even play. There’s a crazy story about him as really just a little kid losing his fare on his way home from some distant camp or tourney and barely making it home.

He comes across and reasonable, decent, thoughtful, funny, and utterly fearless.

This might be about the most impressive interview from an athlete I’ve ever read.

Lefty, reminds me of a story I heard about someone (might have been Datsyuk) not practicing slapshots because he was afraid he wouldn’t be able to replace his stick if it broke
