The Coyotes lost their sixth straight at home Thursday to open a five-game homestand, falling 4-0 to the Los Angeles Kings in front of 12,254 to prompt a players-only meeting for approximately 20 minutes.
"Everyone had an opportunity to kind of express themselves and what they think," captain Shane Doan said. "It's important that we understand that no one's going to feel sorry for you. They'll be a lot of people pointing fingers from the outside, and we gotta make sure we're good on the inside and we just gotta be better as a group. But our belief in each other has to be better, and we gotta have a belief in the fact that we're a good enough team to win."...
The losing streak (0-4-2) ties a franchise record and marks the first time the Coyotes have lost six in a row at home since Jan. 27-Feb. 16, 2009.
Equally concerning is the fact the Coyotes have gone 172:23 without scoring a goal at home.
"It's a great group, but it has to transfer into results on the ice," goalie Mike Smith said. "Saying that, I think we've done a lot of talking and one thing I take out from a lot that's been said is there has to be a belief in here that you can win. Until there's a belief you can win, you can come back, you can hold leads, you'll just continue to struggle."...
"What I can control is playing up to my capability, and it hasn't been there," Smith said. "It hasn't been up to my capability, and that's why we're struggling to stay in hockey games."
