Arizona/Carolina Trade

GLENDALE, ARIZONA -Arizona Coyotes President of Hockey Operations & General Manager John Chayka announced today that the Coyotes have acquired center Marcus Kruger and a third-round draft choice in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for forward Jordan Martinook and a fourth-round draft choice in 2018.

"We are very pleased to add Marcus to the Coyotes," said Chayka. "Marcus is a solid, two-way center who is very responsible defensively and has good speed and skill. He's an excellent penalty-killer and will provide us with good depth at the center ice position."

The 27-year-old Kruger registered 1-5-6 and 28 penalty minutes (PIM) in 48 games with the Hurricanes this season. The 6-foot, 186-pound native of Stockholm, Sweden has totaled 34-77-111 with 204 PIM in 446 career NHL games with the Chicago Blackhawks and Hurricanes. He helped Chicago win Stanley Cup championships in 2013 and 2015.

Kruger scored a career-high nine goals in 2011-12 and collected a career-best 28 points in 2013-14. He was originally drafted by the Blackhawks in the fifth round (149th overall) in the 2009 Entry Draft.

Martinook recorded 26-39-65 and 103 PIM in 247 career games with the Coyotes.
