Are You Listening Ilitch Organization?

from Dave Hodge of TSN,

Not surprisingly, the push is on again. At the very least, Gordie Howe could be remembered otherwise in the major development that will surround Little Ceasar’s Arena. It is set to be known as District Detroit, and it will include five new neighbourhoods that all have names.

It would be easily done to affix Gordie Howe’s name to an office tower or a park or a thoroughfare, but with Joe Louis Arena set to disappear as the only NHL rink that honours and bears the name of a local hero, it just seems wrong to miss the chance to keep it that way in Detroit.

Without a doubt, Little Caesars would be “hailed” if it stepped aside. There’s more than one way to sell a pizza.

more plus some SCF talk...

With no actual money being made from the sale of the naming rights, naming the arena after Gordie is the only thing that makes sense.

Goodwill, prestige, and pride as opposed to shame and soulessness.

Naming it after #9 would be awesome. Who decides to eat a pizza because a building is named after it?

I had wanted the new arena named some variant on The Olympia, but I think I would rather have it called the Gordie Howe Arena.  I very rarely eat Little Ceasar’s pizza as our local franchiser is a real jerk, so that is not a factor.

Wow.  This naming fight has gone national…at least, in the Canadian media.

It would be great to use a combined name of Howe and Little Caesar’s. Why not?  cheese

Fortunately, Gordie Howe is getting the international bridge named after him. That will be around longer than the new arena, and you could argue it’ll get bigger exposure.

Yes, something in the new arena should bear his name but I don’t see Little Caesar’s primary name going away in this economic climate.

Public pressure can work though. Denver fans were able to keep Mile High Stadium despite the urge to use only the corporate name.

Everyone sign this. Fight the corporate stranglehold for Gordie.
