Are The Wild Still Interested In Vanek?

from Eric Duhatschek of the Globe and Mail,

When times were good in Montreal, there was some talk that the Canadiens might actually consider bidding for Vanek in free agency. Now, it seems highly unlikely, given what a negligible impact he’s had on their run to the semi-finals.

But will Minnesota welcome him now, after making inquiries at the deadline, but ultimately settling for Matt Moulson, because the acquisition cost and the dollars out were more affordable? Moulson wasn’t a great fit in Minnesota and the New York Islanders would do well to try and kiss and make up, after dealing him for Vanek in the first place. Minnesota has the great good fortune of having Dany Heatley’s $7-million cap hit disappear after this season, but committing that money to Vanek, a player of questionable playoff pedigree, seems ill-advised at this stage. The Wild seem to have a good thing going, with the group they’ve assembled now. Sitting out free agency this summer makes the most sense for them.

Duhatschek is Dumb as a Box of rocks on Shero his Drafting is TERRIBLE yes he has drafted D Men out the wazoo & his Buddy HC won’t play One Simon Depres & then he bottlenecks the other Young D men by resigning Letang to a Moronic deal & then signing Scuderi to further bottleneck things & Scuderi was Horrible.

If you think Shero is a great person…. say so BUT don’t sit there an outright lie about his “Successes”

Seems to me that Vanek is one of these players that has been given a bum rap for almost no reason. No playoff pedigree? Well yeah, he’s been stuck in Buffalo. He’s a multiple-time 40 goal man, including essentially last season given he potted 20 in a shortened year. He’s scored those goals with a lot of turnover around him. Not sure he fits the Wings’ primary needs, but that part aside, I’d love to see him on this team. How would the Wings’ offense look with Vanek in place of Franzen?

Agreed.
The Wings need real D-men more than anything, but I’ve thought that a Vanek/Datsyuk combination would be one of the most beautiful things ever. I’d love to see it happen, but it isn’t the most pressing need. Anyone looking at Vanek’s stats without looking at his environment misses the mark. The guy is absolutely sick all alone, and has the ability to be a setup man or a finisher. If he had more defense to his game, he’d plug right into Detroit’s system.
