Anyone Want Andrew Raycroft?

from Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News,

Kari Lehtonen should be ready to play Thursday against Columbus, and that has forced some decisions on goaltending today, Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk said.

The Stars today informed goalie Andrew Raycroft that he will be placed on waivers Wednesday at 11 a.m. That would allow the Stars enough time to activate Lehtonen so he can play Thursday against Columbus.

Lehtonen has been out since Nov. 26 with a groin injury, but has been going through full practices and appears ready to return.

In the mean time, rookie Richard Bachman has taken over the backup goalie position. He is 5-2-0 in his eight NHL starts with a 2.76 GAA and .912 save percentage.

A 2-8 record, with 3.51 goals against and an .898 save percentage.  That’s why not.

Raycroft is an interesting case study in goaltending.

From Calder winner to this.

You could argue that players figured him out after the Calder season.

But there are a few goalies who never seemed to adjust to the post lockout/strike season, Raycroft, and Marc Denis are the to that come to mind first.

As a Stars fan I have watched every game Raycroft has played since he joined the team. He had a decent season, numbers-wise, the first season with the team. But I can tell you that after the honeymoon, he didn’t look confident and the team wasn’t confident in front of you.

From what I read, he is a stand-up teammate and a good guy. I hope he works on his confidence in Austin and then is claimed by a team that needs him at some point during reentry waivers.
