Anyone Want Lecavalier?

from TSN,

The Philadelphia Flyers are ramping up their efforts to find a suitor for centre Vincent Lecavalier.

TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reported Thursday that Lecavalier's agent Kent Hughes has permission to speak to other teams regarding a trade for his client. Dreger adds that making a deal will be tough for the Flyers in the days leading up to July 1, as Lecavalier is owed a $2 million bonus on that date.

Dreger reported earlier this month that Lecavalier was in play in the trade market, though he has a no-move clause in his contract.

The only way I see him moving is if the Flyers pick-up some of his salary...

Short of the detroit lions, is there a more dysfunctional pro sports team today???

My god! The people who frequent this site complain constantly about Kenny’s moves ( or lack of ). We would be hiding the razor blades if the wings had made moves similar to the flyers over the last 5-10 seasons!

Still baffles me how willing FA’s are to sign there with their curious plan of signing players to long term contracts, committing them to their core, then trading them shortly there after.

Sure.

For Weiss.

I railed against this contract with my friends as soon as it was signed even though they were all excited. I thought they overpaid for him. The other thing is, he came here based on Laviolette’s system, not Berube’s more defensive approach. So Vinny isn’t happy and the Flyers know he’s not going to be in the top 2 lines.

In case you are wondering, the Flyers have just over $1.8M in cap space left per CapGeek.

That doesn’t take into account that Pronger’s comes off when he’s put on LTIR.

Philly’s dysfunction is all due the the masterful Ken Holland move of stealing away Dan Cleary and creating a hole in their dream team. Holland was a masterful manipulator with that brilliant move.

Philly has been the farm club for eventual Stanley Cup teams, so maybe Detroit should get Vinny. Maybe in a sign and trade with Cleary, seeing as how they were so interested in him last off-season.

Maybe KH could offer the Flyers a few magazine subscriptions for Lecavalier.  Considering what they gave up Hartnell for, seems worth a shot.

Kenny has been great in a relative sense.  Now he needs to work on being great in an absolute sense.  I can’t believe how far that organization has fallen off and how extensive the dismantling has been the past few years.  I have a Flyers-fan-friend who seems to be more focused on cheering for the successful former Flyers than the current iteration of the team.  Bad place to be.

Relative to Feaster and Holmgren?  Probably but Kenny’s 5 year track record is nothing to be proud of

But is anybody’s besides Bowmann and Lombardi (maybe Chiareli)?

Yeah, he should be ashamed of averaging 100 points a year and going 21-26 in the playoffs while reworking the whole roster on the fly, losing irreplaceable all time greats like Lidstrom and top tier players like Rafalski, having D and Z start to slip, and having outrageous injury issues in one of the years.

There are 15-20 NHL teams who would KILL for a five year stretch like Holland has put together while he was performing a freaking rebuild.

The people whining about Holland just don’t understand that the expectations have to be rational during a transition period, and by rational I mean lower than what they are when the team is really poised to be a frontrunner.

When you run a team to be consistent and not to depend on 5+ years of awfulness within which to accumulate loads of early picks used to fuel stretches of greatness, that’s the reality.  You can’t always have everything in the organization perfectly tuned.

I think it’s funny how some Wings fans always bust on the Flyers’ organization for “boneheaded” moves.  I guess they forgot to check the standings this year.  As for the last five years (only the last two of which were considered Ken Holland rebuild years), the Flyers lead in playoff series victories, 5-2.
