Any Issues With Back-To-Back Playoff Games?

from Sam Carchidi of Broad Street Bull,

The Flyers-Rangers schedule is a joke, mostly because if the series goes the limit, the teams will play Games 6 and 7 on consecutive nights at different arenas. Oh, and if the series goes the distance, the last three games will be played over four nights.

But, hey, two big-market teams will be on national TV on consecutive Sundays!

What a sham.

If this series goes seven games, the winner will be worn down by the condensed schedule and will be at a severe disadvantage in the next round against the Pittsburgh-Columbus survivor.

We see this every year, right?  But in this case, at least the arenas are <100 miles apart.

Waaaaay back in 2009 when the Wings played the Pens in the finals, they played back to back games (both of which were at least in Detroit).  That sort of irked me, especially with it coming at the tail end of the playoffs on the concluding two days of May, but whatever.  The schedule can’t be perfect.

I’ve got a solution. Win faster. They control their own destiny.

This is stupid. There shouldn’t be back-to-backs in the playoffs, unless they are equitable in the sense that each series in the East, or each series in the West, has a back-to-back scheduled for the same two games. That way the travel is at least potentially somewhat comparable, and the possibility of winning early to avoid the back-to-back is equal for all teams.

And there should never be back-to-backs in the Cup final, and there should always be at least 2 days of rest between the conference finals and the Cup final.

I don’t mind them as I understand there are sometimes arena scheduling conflicts, but in this case the first 5 games are so spread out it’s ridiculous to have a back-to-back for the last two.
