from Curtis Pashelka of the Mercury News,
“You play on so many teams over the years,” Thornton said, “you realize what kind of group you have here and you definitely don’t want to spoil a year like this.”
The Sharks have two of the best defensemen in the NHL in Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Brent Burns leading a corps of blueliners that might be the deepest in the league. They feature two of the better centers still in their prime in Logan Couture and Joe Pavelski.
The franchise goalie is in place with Martin Jones. Free agent additions have been made in Mikkel Boedker and David Schlemko. Young players like Joonas Donskoi and Chris Tierney have been integrated alongside veterans like Paul Martin and Joel Ward, who, like Thornton and Marleau, have more yesterdays than tomorrows in the NHL in their search for an elusive first ring.
“We have hall of famers, five guys who were playing in the World Cup (final),” Tierney said. “You never know how many guys you’ll have like that again on the team at the same time, so you definitely want to take advantage of it.”
