LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings have acquired defenseman Andrej Sekera from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for prospect Roland McKeown and a conditional first round selection, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.

Sekera, 28, has played in 57 games with the Hurricanes this year and has 19 points (2-17=19) and eight penalty minutes.

The 6-0, 201-pound native of Bojnice, Slovakia has played for the Hurricanes and Buffalo Sabres during his nine-year NHL career. In 470 career regular season games he has 155 points (30-25=155), a plus-3 rating and 130 penalty minutes. In eight NHL playoff games he has one point (1-0=1), a plus-1 rating and 11 penalty minutes.

McKeown, 19, was originally selected by the Kings (50th overall) in the 2014 NHL Draft. The pick was acquired from Vancouver in exchange for Linden Vey.

Me likee.

Little apprehensive about the generic “prospect” description.

Now what happens if Voynov is reinstated? I guess we cross the bridge when we get to it.

Thanks, Paul. I can definitely live with that. Better than Forbort or Miller out of Manchester, at this point in time.

Oh, so that team that shutout the Wings by playing a physical brand of hockey with a strong defensive presence just… strengthened their defense? Great.

Tick, tock…. Tick, tock…

The rich get richer indeed. It doesn’t come without cost though, I mean a 1st in the deepest draft in years is not easy to give up. If it doesn’t lead to a cup for LA, then it further sets back an organization already out of the top 20 in prospects. It’s not the type of move I’d want to see Holland make, but in LA’s case maybe Sekera is that final piece. He wouldn’t be for Detroit, that’s for sure….

One hit to the head, and Sekera is out the rest of the year.  He just can’t stay healthy, and at 28 years old, that isn’t saying much.

But hey, Kings are definitely legit.  Again.

Sekera was the one i thought they should go for as i think he’s the most bang for the buck….
as far as being injury prone.
2010 - 76 gp
2011- 69gp
2012 - 37 gp (lockout year)
2013 - 74 gp
2014 -52 gp so far.

McKeown, by my understanding, is nothing to sneeze at though.  He’s more a long-term project, but…  him + a 1st is a decent haul for Sekera.

Looks like HF have McKeown as a “7.0 D”.  So his potential is considered “volatile”.

I wonder what the “conditions” are on the 1st.
