so they buyout Brz and Briere for Streit and Lecavalier.  I guess.  They seem to just make moves to make moves.

I’m soooo glad we passed on this. I think it’ll be obvious why in 3 years.

Have fun Phailing in Philly Vinny!

The fact the flyers gave him a no move clause is laughable.

Add this signing to the long list of the flyers bad deals.

The fact he chose Philly and was requesting a no move clause, tells you it was all about money and not at all about winning.

Steve mason in goal and now lecavallier!!......start engraving that cup now.

shut eye

Whew. Kenny holland dodged a bullet there.  Hes pretty much a more physical Franzen with about the same hit based on his worst years totals at least.  Thank god we someone else got him for under 5m.

Philly really does like to make a splash, but the moves seem to come back to bite them, and they don’t mind that.

An NMC is what killed the deal with the Wings?  Wow.

You have to give Philly credit for being aggressive and not being afraid to take a financial risk, but they don’t appear to have any long term plan whatsoever.

Whoever smelt it, dealt it?

VL has declined 5 of the past 6 years.  He’s missed ~20% of the season the past three years.  He’s 33, which isn’t old per se, but he has 1037 NHL games played, which really is.  Bertuzzi, at 38, has 1100 games played.

The problem with VL will likely not come in year one or two.  It will come in years 3-5 when he’s a 15 goal 40 point forward. per 82, and missing 25 games a year to boot. This is likely why Holland didn’t offer him a contract which covered those years.

This is also why complaining about the Wings not doing it is silly.

When is Betteman going to make Philly actually have the Pronger contract count against the cap.  I know he has long term concussion problems. But they shouldn’t get about $5 million of cap relief every year while they still pay him out. He should be forced to retire technically by the NHL.

i think even Vinny knows that he won’t be worth this in a few years… it’s why he was so determined to get the 5 years. Because if he accepted 2 years at $5mil/per from the Wings (or someone else), he’d then be a UFA and knows that nobody will give him another 3 years at $4.5 mil at that point. He’ll be a slow, fading $5mil vet with a NTC… and thankfully, someone else’s problem.

No, he’s a human being who wants some stability in his life.  He thought he was going to retire in Tampa, now he has to look for a new home, and would like it to be his last in the NHL.  I’m sure thats why the NMC was a huge deal for him as well.

Whoa!  The wit got dialed up to 11 for that one!

Here’s the thing.  Guys like you have been whining about Holland for years.  Literally years.  And it’s the same stupid, uniformed, grossly inconsistent and historically clueless argument re-chewed and re-spit into digital form from a bunch of slightly off-center and often noticeably ajar at rest mouths over and over again.

Holland doesn’t sign enough FA vets.  Check.

Of course, when he does sign FA vets and they play ahead of ‘kids’, YOWLING RAGE!

When Holland misses out on a vet FA, who’d be talking IT from a kid as well as taking cap space away which could be used to re-sign a kid, YOWLING RAGE!

In the mean time, we see over and over and over and over again how the exact kind of contracts you want Holland to sign blow up in the faces of team after team after team after team.

Hey, the Rangers ‘won’ the Brad RIchards derby!  Hooray!
Hey, the Canucks won the Roberto Luongo derby!  Hooray!
Hey, the Jackets won the James Wizniewski derby!  Hooray!
Hey, the Flyers won the Pronger, Briere, and Bryzgalov derbies!  Hooray!
Hey, the Canes won the Alex Semin derby!  Hooray!
Hey, the Wild won the Parise and Suter derbies!  Hooray!
Hey, the Thrashers won the Byfuglien derby!  Hooray!
Hey, the Flames won the Jiri Hudler derby!  Hooray!

I threw that last one in there just for kicks.

Does Holland make mistakes?  Of course.  Everyone does.  Is every big FA contract a balance sheet grenade with the pin pulled?  Of course not.

Still, one would think that at some point fans of a really, really successful team would mayyyyybe start to get the picture that a big part of the reason the team is successful is that they do things the way they have.

And, more importantly, don’t do things the way they have (n’t).

So, while I think it’s totally fine to criticize Holland, and I do it from time to time, I think that both the nature of the criticism as well as it’s tone here is both ignorant as well as oblivious.

Other than that, you guys are doing great work.

Tampa is getting rid of him, because he is done. The fact he went to Philly pretty much assures you it is a bad deal.

Could it be possible the Flyers say thanks but no thanks to Streit? I’m just wondering because they have a bunch of RFAs that will get some bump and still need a 2nd goalie to pair with Mason. So if they’re adding VL at this price and Streit at that reported price, then they can’t go get that 2nd goalie unless Nabakov or ‘Bulin are going to play for an incentive laden contract based on the minimum.
