from Adam Brady of AnaheimDucks.com,
With the start of his 11th training camp in Anaheim just days away, Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf reflected on the disappointment of last spring, the goings-on over the summer and his outlook on this season.
Looking back on what happened in Game 7 against Chicago, how soon were you able to turn the page and look ahead to this season?
The initial reaction is to try and put it away real quick. There’s not a whole lot you can do after that day. Throughout the next week or so, there’s a lot of stuff going on. From there, you want to enjoy your teammates and stuff because you never know what group is going to be back the next year. I think it’s about two weeks in before you actually sit back and think about it, go through a lot of different scenarios on how we could have done better and what we could have done differently. Then you try and build off that and learn from it before you put it away again.
Are there regrets when you look back on that series?
You try not to use the word “regret” because it’s a game, and we try and play it hard. There are certain things we could have done differently, but systematically I think we were set up pretty well to beat that team. We had them down, and we had two chances to put them away and didn’t do it. Much like with LA the year before, when you’re playing those good teams, you can’t give them that extra life. I wish that in Game 6 we would have come out and taken more control of the game than we did.
