from Bob Sensevere of the Pioneer Press,

BS: In every sport, there have been teams that struggle at the end of a regular season and then have renewed life. Is that what you're expecting to happen?

CL: There is no better example than what happened last year with the Los Angeles Kings. The L.A. Kings only won four of their last 11 games and they lost their last two games. Still got into the playoffs and end up winning the Stanley Cup. We don't have to go very far to find a model. We think our team is very much like the Kings. We go hot. We go cold. We did it all season. Now we've got to go hot, and we think we can.

BS: Is that what you're telling your friends?

CL: That's what we're telling everybody. This is a whole new season. Everybody does talk about it, but it's the hot team with the hot goalie and hot players that will now start to rise. We think we've got a chance to do that.

BS: Just getting into the postseason lifts an enormous weight off a team, doesn't it?

CL: The pressure is not on us right now. We're going to go out there and have fun. We're going to play probably looser than we have been in a long time. We think this is now our time.

I’ll say it once again to everyone trying to compare their team to last year’s Kings.  The Kings were preseason Stanley Cup favorites by many people last year.  Your team Craig, while picked to make the playoffs (which you barely did) was not a Stanley Cup pick.  Your team is not very much like the Kings.  You don’t have to go any further than goal to see that.  Quick was good all year last year, and continued into the playoffs.  Backstrom this year….not so good.  Three or more goals in 5 of his last 7 games.

Also, a quick check of the schedule shows the Kings winning 6 of their last 11 last year not 4.  On the other hand they only won 3 of their last 8, so maybe that’s what you meant.  Though they did take 9 points in those 8 games, while your “very much like the Kings” team managed only 11 points in 14 games in April.

I understand trying to portray a rosy outlook for your team and fans, but there is no “last year’s Kings” in this year’s playoffs.  That’s not to say any team couldn’t surprise and win the whole thing, but they’ll do it with their own story not as a rehash of last year’s Kings.
