Alex Burrows With An Apology To Patrick O’Sullivan

from Frank Servalli of TSN,

Vancouver Canucks pest Alexandre Burrows apologized Thursday to former NHL player Patrick O’Sullivan for stepping over the line with an offensive on-ice comment from some “eight or 10 years ago.”

The incident came to light after O’Sullivan alleged on Twitter that Burrows was the only opponent to taunt him for the well-documented physical and emotional abuse O’Sullivan was subjected to as a child from his father.

“Burrows (was the) only guy who said he wanted to hurt me like my father did,” O’Sullivan tweeted on Thursday. “(That’s) why I can’t stand him.”...

Burrows owned up to the remarks after the Canucks’ loss to the Flyers.

“I apologize if I offended him back then. I did say some stuff that may now, looking back ... I could see how it would’ve offended him, like a lot of things I said back in the day,” Burrows said. “I read his story on The Player’s Tribune. It’s tough to see.”

Ed Willes of the Vancouver Province,

Against this backdrop, Burrows’ actions are indefensible. Yes, there’s a timeline there and, yes, the full picture of O’Sullivan’s ordeal has only emerged after his retirement. But this is child abuse. This is on a whole different level.

Burrows, at least, owned up to his mistake and attempted to make amends on Thursday. But there’s another issue here and it concerns the credo outlined above, the belief that anything is acceptable in the name of winning and gaining an edge.

The bigger problem here is that Burrows was still doing the same thing only just a month ago, when he got far too personal with remarks to Jordin Tootoo.

Burrows has not “grown” since the O’Sullivan incident.  He’s the exact same sh**bag he was then, doing and saying the exact same sh**bag things.

I really have no idea why ANYONE would want or tolerate him on their team, to be honest.  The days of him scoring 30 or even 20 are apparently well past him now, and he doesn’t bring much else to the table, save for his mouth constantly causing P.R. problems for everyone.
