Here’s a news flash for the CBC: Cherry’s sorry act no longer plays with Canadians. It’s become sickening and when the ugliness is turned on a Stu Grimson or a Chris Nilan, it’s too much.

This feels like the beginning of the end. The monster is feeding on its young. Surely, this time, enough is enough.

Cherry has a right to his opinion an it’s sad that other media use him for stories.  Maybe if they would stop trying to knock “the monster” down and focus on their own ideas they would get some loyal followers.  Sure Cherry is tough on the old ways but that’s where he came from and that’s his view.

@bigdee89: A big part of the problem is that he does it on the public broadcaster, so everyone in Canada pays his salary. If he was doing this on a private broadcaster, I don’t think you’d hear so much complaining.

They should take Cherry and put him with McLean, Lee and Weekes on a separate station and they can all work at being idiots.  Lee and Weekes are hands down the worst duo.  They are all homers for other teams and I feel bad that I joined in the “keep Ron McLean” campaign.

Dzuunmod: Whether or not we agree with Cherry (and he gives a bad rep. to us french Canadians) I am a believer in free speech.  I agree with bigdee89. We might be paying his salary, but I do not “pay” broadcasters to simply say and agree with what the majority of the population says. The way I see it, if people really hate him that much, stop watching the show…but since he still has a job, I have to assume that CBC is still making money or they would not renew his contract. Besides, he is not coming back next year.

Love him or not, he kept HNIC relevant while TSN has taken on many more games (and stole their song lol).  It will be interesting to see who his replacement will be when he retires.

Sure, Cherry has a right to his opinion. He does not have a right to be a prime-time contributor to what is regularly one of the most-watched tv shows in Canada.

He does not have a right to pollute the minds of all the hockey fans that just want to watch a game on a Saturday night. Members of the media are warned about “becoming” the story, and that’s what has happened with Cherry.

The CBC statement on this was ridiculous—“he has a right to his opinion” or some such. As a hockey fan, I should also have a right to not have to listen to it. These are the times I am happy that, being a Canucks fan, I can generally avoid the early game.

It was interesting to watch Sunday’s instalment of Coach’s Corner from Winnipeg. A bunch of lookalike Cherrys had joined Grapes and McLean. They were all happy face due to being on TV and promoting their noble cause. Then Cherry started to contradict himself by praising Phaneuf’s hit on da Costa and then calling it a hit to the head - which in the strict sense makes him an approver of head shots. However, the crowd started to mumble in the backgroud and everybody was like *There he goes again…* It was kind of symbolic of Canada’s relationship to Don Cherry. He’s the old iconic and funny dressed man who is allowed to speak his mind (and at times has some good advice for all the hockey youths) and to mispronounce everyone’s name who isn’t a *good Canadian boy*. Then again nobody cares at all.

Bwahaha. Outstanding.

Sure, Cherry is an ignorant bigot but “that’s where he came from…” (whatever in the hell that means). Yeah, he DOES have a right to speak his mind…and so do all of the people who recognize how much of an ass he is. It’s a wash. Besides, this literal clown stopped being even remotely relevant about 10 years ago.

Todd who?

He’s in the entertainment business.  Love him or hate him everyone is talking about what he sais.  Everyone knows who he is which is more than can be said for Mr. Todd.

I didn’t agree with most of what he said but wouldn’t it be boring if all we got was an amen chorus.

Is this for real?  I live in the States and I always respected the toughness of hockey players, coming from small farming towns.  They were tough, but humble men and unlike some of our athletes in the US, they played hard with so much heart.  Now to see the whining going on about remarks Don Cherry made.  What’s going on Canada, did you get your feelings hurt.  I feel like slapping all of you, taking you by the arms and shaking you and telling you to be a man (a reference from The Godfather).
Please don’t wimp out on me!

Stu Grimson should be given equal time on HNIC to give his opinion. Cherry was given time to insult Grimson, Grimson should be given the same amount of time during Coaches Corner to reply. It is only fair he gets equal time.
