“We felt [Paille] tried to square up and circle around, and in fact if you look at the footage at one point he was two or three feet ahead of the player, then circled back.  Whether the hit was in the danger zone, that lateral blind spot, it probably was. But I really felt that he tried to circle back and get square to the player and get in front of him. I thought it was a little stiff. I thought maybe one or two games.”

- Boston Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli on the “stiff” suspension Daniel Paille received for his hit on Raymond Sawada.  More from Douglas Flynn of NESN.

I’ve posted the video below in case you missed it or want to review it again.

Maybe the collar around Chiarelli’s neck is “a little stiff” itself.

GM’s constantly complaining about suspensions does not help the situation. For every baby step that is made, a GM chimes in and crusades against those baby steps.

If everyone would accept these suspensions, they will ‘level off,’ you would think a bit more consistency would reveal itself, the NHL wouldn’t feel like they have to make a point over and over again. (in theory)

Paille isn’t a repeat offender, so Chiarelli has a point.  There is no consistensy in the suspension policy.  By at least aknowleging that it was a suspendable hit he’s infinitly classier than Feaster.

I thought four games was realistic.

I might need a better angle but that is a pretty good example of what a violation of rule 48 is.
