“It was 5-0 and you’ve got Joe Thornton and you got Patrick Marleau and you’ve got Heatley and you’ve got Boyle and you’ve got [Joe] Pavelski on the ice.  People don’t forget those things.”

-Anaheim Ducks coach Randy Carlyle who was upset the Sharks loaded up their offense late in the 2nd period.  More on the Ducks from Eric Stephens of Ducks Blog.

Carlyle seems to be getting his panties in a wad a lot this season. Do I sense a coach that is about to be fired? He seems to be coming up with enough excuses.

Carlyle then said “Tell Todd McClellan he’s gonna get it. You better tell him!”

It was a baseball game for my local minor league team this year when the radio team for the team put what I think is the best spin on this. My team was winning very comfortably, something like 9-2 in the 6th or 7th inning, and they were discussing the idea of “piling it on” and talking about how important it is that players keep playing the best they can, because they are trying to improve their own games to advance to the next level of play. The conversation also turned to the idea that in baseball a game is never really out of reach because you don’t run out of time, just outs. The last comment made was, I think, the best.

One of the members of the radio team said, “my feeling is, if the other team promises to stop trying to come back, then the team in the lead should stop trying to score more runs.”

If the trailing team gives up and stops trying to score goals and come back, then the team in the lead should also stop trying to score goals to make sure they secure the win, Sometimes you are the pigeon, sometimes you are the statue. The Ducks got pooped on. It happens.

Agreed.  He’s got something fresh to bitch about after every Ducks loss and he’s always trying to take some of the attention away from what’s really important: the Ducks suck more than they should and it’s all his fault.

Carlyle is not a good coach.

What a baby. He must’ve forgot when Chicago rallied to beat Calgary 6-5 last year when the Blackhawks trailed 5-0. Quit your crying, Carlyle.

Possibly he was hoping McLelland had forgotten.

So if the Ducks were up 5-0 he wouldn’t have Getzlaf, Perry, and Ryan on the ice for a power play?

Who do you want the Sharks to put on the ice?  The third and fourth lines would have still run the table on the Ducks last night.

Thornton has a plus-minus problem that he’s in the process of fixing. Carlyle can’t expect him to sit now.
Besides aren’t player’s supposed to play, it even says right there in the word players.

Let’s stop and think about that for a moment. No team in the NHL can blow a lead like the Flames. They are experts at blowing a lead of any kind. Now I’m not trying to back ol’ Crlyle up here, because let’s face it he is crying, just trying to put things into perspective. SJ might be a bit softer defensively this year but they certainly aren’t going around blowing leads 3 games in a row…
