Afternoon Line

“Our goal has always been to try and develop our own players to build a core group of players that are going to grow up together.  It takes time to develop players, and it takes time for them to develop into National Hockey League players. But there are some kids that are really starting to come in the right direction now.”

-Glen Sather, President & GM of the New York Rangers.  More from Jim Cerny at Rangers.com.

It might be the current strategy, but Sather used the word always. That made me laugh.

What does Sather have on his employer(s)? I’m floored that this guy still has a job.

I don’t think he has anything on his employer, he just lucked into a job whereby the owners are idiots and/or don’t take an interest in the success/failure of the franchise. It happens all the time unfortunately from the Lions to the Atlanta Thrashers to the Kansas City Royals. Sather’s problem was that he tried take a few pages out of the Yankee playbook and it didn’t work. Now he’s trying something else and he’s begging for time.
