Afternoon Line

There is plenty of blame to go around here, but remember this. Lockouts are done by owners. This is the second one in eight years, the third in 18. Even if they get back to the table in a day or two and get a deal, this will be yet another stunted season.

And it’s all in the wake of the owners raking in more money than they ever did before. The fans showered them with $3.3-billion (U.S.) last season. You don’t need to use your imagination much to know what the owners showered the fans with in return.

Does Shoalts understand the difference between revenue and profit? Also, the “lockouts are done by owners” argument is a red herring. The CBA expired, the balance of the deal was lopsided, and the PA wasn’t interested in negotiating. It ain’t rocket science.

Stupid owners!

How dare they not play under a system that forced 15+ teams to lose millions every year!  It’s completely their fault for wanting to change that system.  They should just feel privileged that they are lucky enough to own them an NHL team that costs 7 or 8 figures each year.

Of course, nobody would actually be so goofy as to suggest that the players should do anything but rake in millions in profits every year for being, you know, players.  It’s completely fine for them to expect to be vastly personally enriched by participating in the NHL.

But the owners should just get what they get.  Because they are owners.  So, they are evil and deserving of an entirely different set of rules than players.

I’m sorry, the system forced them all to lose money?

When you bring in more money than ever in the history of the league, on a CBA that was WRITTEN BY THE OWNERS, it’s not the fault of the “system” that people are losing money, it’s the fault of the owners.

But the owners should just get what they get.  Because they are owners.

The owners pay the players.

The owners sign the contracts.

If the owners can’t afford that then the owners shouldn’t put pen to paper.

Again, this is not the fault of the players or the system, it is the fault of the owners.

The ignore list being used as a tree fort to hide from people after lobbing invective at them.

That’s problematic.

The problem with your position is that you blame the owners for the situation and now you are blaming the owners for trying to fix the situation.  While I find that kind of fairly silly inconsistency somewhat amusing, I can;t help but think you’d have an easier time navigating this kind of issue if you tried to avoid them a little harder.

If you actually believed any of that you’d have no problem with the owners not putting pen to paper on a new CBA.

After all, it’s their fault according to you.  It must be their responsibility to fix it.

Eyeroll.

That’s an incomplete sentence. It should read:

The problem with your position is that you blame the owners for the situation and now you are blaming the owners for trying to fix the situation in the *#$%@& way possible.

See, the league as a whole turns a profit. The system the owners created in 2005 is at fault that a (dubiously) alleged 15+ teams lose money in a league that pulls in significantly more than it puts out.

Hey look, everyone!  HockeyinHD is putting words in someone else’s mouth.  Oh, never mind, you missed it, but don’t worry because he’ll do it again very, very soon.

I’m not blaming the owners for trying to fix the problem, I’m blaming the owners for dodging their responsibilities.

THEY caused the situation but they don’t want to pay for it.

The same thing happened last time.  They created a way to punish the players for the mistakes of the owners.  Then they did the SAME THING AGAIN.  Did they learn from their mistakes?  No, of course not, why learn from their mistakes when they can punish the people who are directly responsible for the record hockey related revenues?

And guess what’s going to happen next time they do the EXACT SAME THING?  Take responsibility for it?  No, of course not, they’ll just take more money from the players, then do it all over yet again!

But those god damn players, being at least equally responsible for the irresponsibility of the owners and getting emotional when Bettman makes outrageous claims about “some” GMs and then refusing to substantiate them.

Actually I did miss it….that and any other point that he might be trying to make in those incredibly erudite posts that I totally still bother to read.
