Kukla's Korner Hockey

Afternoon Line

All hockey is now "vintage" hockey, of course, the game having disappeared in America first from national television, then from highlight shows, then from our shrinking sports sections, and finally from arenas altogether, like the cartoon magician who packed all his wonderful props and finally himself into a single steamer trunk and shuffled off the stage.

Seriously, there is no hope, or use, in trying to salvage this season;  the damage done now is already incalculable. It really doesn’t matter now if the league is shut down for one year or five years, it will have to be rebuilt from the ground up at this point.

Amazing, a year after the LA Kings win the Cup, and the NHL is given a golden opportunity to grow the game in outlying hockey areas, and instead of doing so the league commits suicide.

Stunning, really.
