“To all of a sudden sign a deal that changes your life and makes things better for you and your family, someone tries to take that away from you, it’s insulting and, quite frankly, it’s embarrassing for (the league) as well.  We only have a limited time to play and earn a living as hockey player,s and we’re doing everything we can. Every guy has worked hard for that. We can be proud to stand up for what we stood up for so far, and there’s no shame in that.”

-Jonathan Toews of the Chicago Black Hawks on the NHL negotiations.  More from Toews and Patrick Kane at CSN Chicago.

I think if a person is making the same amount of money at point A and point B, they didn’t have their pay cut.  Because their pay is the same.

If points A and B are four years apart and have a difference in the math used to get there, the pay cut is real and has only disappeared by use of a differing perspective on the real money.

so that in a post or two when he starts wildly misrepresenting them

Yes, when in several posts down the road, HiHD says the same misleading magic-trick definition and I point out that nobody shares that perspective because it’s a dishonest way of looking at things, we can all go back to the origination point and save the trouble of sifting through the bullshit.

If you are making 50 k, and then 4 years later you are making 50k, is your pay cut?

That depends.  If you were making 50K and then had your PAY CUT to 40K, then had to build yourself back up to 50K, have you actually had your pay cut?

You’re 100%.

If Point A is today and Point B is tomorrow.

But when Point A is today and Point B is 7 years from now, and between those two points YOUR PAY GOES DOWN FROM POINT A, it is a pay cut.

In fact, it’s the very definition of a pay cut.

Pretend that’s not a pay cut all you want but you’re just arguing for the sake of arguing.

But, keep in mind: BS > Sifting

Also: other leagues sift their BS in roughly a 50-50 sift.

The owners really deserve a finer sieve so they can keep more BS and lose less to the sifting process.
