Seriously Babs? You pick this moment in time to insult your players publicly? By all means, make this crack to their faces in the locker room. You know, like a real stand-up guy would do. But public insults and humiliation as a coaching tool never work. Why not try some actual coaching?

The Wings are playing most of the game in their own zone. It’s difficult to get a decent number of SOG that way; they need more time in the B’s end. The B’s are standing like a wall at the blue line with one D back by the goal line. So when the Wings dump in the puck, the lone B back gets to the puck and chips it back out while the Wings are fighting to get through the Wall of B’s. When the Wings try and skate in the puck, they lose possession and the B’s are off to the races.

Please, for the love of Stanley, do more lob dump ins. Yule did one lob dump in game 2 and it led to the Wings having over a minute in the B’s zone and a scoring chance. The lob dump in, like a punt with good hang time, gives the Wings’ speedy wingers a chance to get to the puck.

Would you care to enlighten us as to what he did say to his team?  Since, apparently, you were in the locker room and know that he didn’t say to them what he said to the media…

Bitch, please. Even you can’t be that dense. My obvious point, which I’ll make even more obvious for you is that insulting players in the media is ineffective as a coaching technique. Whether he said it to their faces in addition to the media is irrelevant. My post did not imply that it was one or the other.

Good for Babcock!

It’s as pissed as I’ve seen him as Red Wings coach, and he has every right to be. It is simply inexcusable for this team to have battled so hard to even make the playoffs, and then perform like they have the last two games.

When they going got tough, the ‘tough’ turtled.

a. Who is to say he hasn’t told that to his players already?

b. Is he wrong?

Facts are facts, and we’re not getting enough shots to him. Be it because we’re too busy passing the puck and eventually getting it stripped away, or because we’re being far too tentative and not crashing the net.

The only thing obvious here is the shots faced tally, and Jimmy has faced a lot more shots this series than Rask has. We solve Rask by applying pressure, going to the net, getting second and third chances, and even a few lucky bounces. We don’t get chances by playing merry-go-round with the puck on the power play and trying to make fancy moves that inevitably winds up with us getting stripped of the puck.

I doubt anyone can answer my point a, but the question in point b is obvious: He’s not wrong. We need to do a much better job getting pucks on net.

Game two was a clusterfuch, but at least we scored a goal. Game three was awful. We need to get back to basics here in game four, or it’ll be the last home game we play this postseason.
